The Improvised Incendiary Device (IID) Recognition Course teaches the student how to identify incendiary components and incendiary devices at security screening checkpoints. Detecting IIDs is a critical part of any security screener’s responsibility. IIDs can be created using common household items purchased from any hardware, grocery, or department store. Their design is limited only by the skill and creativity of its maker. IIDs are very dangerous because they generate intense heat, smoke, and fire when detonated. Training is the most important element in effective detection of IIDs. This training course examines the dangers posed by Improvised Incendiary Devices, provides essential instruction on basic IID components, and identifies how the screening process aids in the detection of IIDs and IID components.
