The European Union Commission Regulation No 2015/1998, Section 11.4.1 requires persons operating X-ray or Explosive Detection System (EDS) equipment shall be subject to recurrent training consisting of image recognition training and testing. This training shall take the form of: (a) classroom and/or computer based training (CBT) or (b) on-the-job Threat Image Projection (TIP) training.
For classroom and/or CBT, persons shall be subject to image recognition training and testing for at least six hours in every six month period. An image library shall be used containing at least 1,000 images of at least 250 different threat articles, including images of component parts of threat articles, with each article captured in a variety of different orientations. There shall be an unpredictable selection of images from the library during the training and testing. The threat articles must be compliant with Section 4—Passengers and Cabin Baggage Attachment 4-C, Section 5—Hold Baggage Attachment 5-B, Section 6.0.2 for Cargo, and Section 6.0.3 for Mail.
Safe Passage has a complete CBT package that includes our Training Management System (TMS) and X-ray Interpretation Simulator Course. The TMS includes functionality to monitor the exact amount of time a student spends interpreting X-ray images during practice sessions, track performance on each image recognition session, and provide detailed reports to prove compliance with each six month period.
